Certificate & hallmark guide

Verify the details. Wear it with certainty.

Use the issuing laboratory for the diamond report and the official BIS Care app for the gold hallmark. OUVRA supplies SGL or IGI documentation for its diamonds and BIS hallmarking with HUID where eligible.

Official checks

Three numbers. Three official sources.

01

IGI report

Enter the report number printed on your IGI document, or use its QR code. Compare the result with the diamond description, measurements, carat, colour, clarity and laboratory-grown origin on your report.

Verify with IGI
02

SGL report

Use the SGL report-number search on the laboratory’s official website. Check that the returned report and the certificate supplied with your piece describe the same diamond or jewellery article.

Verify with SGL
03

BIS hallmark & HUID

Download the official BIS Care app and choose “Verify HUID”. Enter the six-character HUID marked on the jewellery to view the registered hallmark details and compare the purity with your invoice.

These buttons open IGI, SGL and BIS directly. OUVRA does not reproduce or alter laboratory results.

Where to look

Girdle, certificate, hallmark.

On the diamond

The girdle runs around the stone’s widest edge. If the report states that the diamond is laser-inscribed, a jeweller can locate the microscopic number under magnification and match it to the certificate.

For small diamonds

Small accent stones are often verified collectively through jewellery or parcel documentation rather than one inscription per stone. Check the total diamond weight, count and stated quality on the supplied certificate and invoice.

On the gold

The BIS marks sit on the metal in the least visible practical location. Enter the HUID exactly as marked in BIS Care; the result should agree with the purity and jeweller details supplied with your piece.

Before you worry

What the marks do—and do not—mean.

Where is a diamond’s laser inscription?

When a stone is inscribed, the microscopic report number is placed on the girdle—the narrow outer edge between the crown and pavilion. It normally needs a clean stone, good light and a 10× loupe or microscope to read.

Does every diamond have a readable inscription?

No. Laser inscription is not universal, and tiny accent or melee diamonds may not carry an individually readable number. For those stones, verify the jewellery or parcel certificate and its diamond-weight and quality description. A missing visible inscription alone does not prove a diamond is inauthentic.

Where is the BIS hallmark on jewellery?

Look on a discreet metal surface: inside a ring or bangle, on the reverse of a pendant or earring, or near a chain clasp. A current hallmark carries the BIS mark, the purity/fineness mark and a six-character HUID. Very small pieces may need magnification.

Is a report number enough on its own?

It confirms that a report exists, but you should also compare the report’s measurements and grading details with the supplied piece. For an individually certified stone, ask the jeweller to help match the girdle inscription where one is listed.
